PIONEER'S XMP3 XM RADIO
TSS Taylor is always sending me cool Sirius shit to check out. It's one of the perks of running SFN so when he called to say he was overnighting a new radio I was like, bring it on. I'll take pretty pictures and do a write up for ya. I can't wait to play with it. The it gets here and WHAT THE FUCK!!! It's an XM radio?!!? I don't have XM. I don't want XM. In my mind that are still the enemy. But then again, it is damn cool looking and we are all family now. Maybe I shouldn't be so quick to judge.
It's the XMP3 by Pioneer and he sells em for $260. Tell me the thing isn't cool. Here it is in the dock. The kit came with the radio, headphones, battery, home dock, antenna, remote, and all the cabels you need to hook it up to the stereo or you computer. it's portable jobbie like the Stiletto but there's not head mounted antenna. Instead it's got one sticking right out the top walkie talkie style. Check out TSS-Radio for all the details.

What I learned from Hooper in the movie Jaws is you need to have something in the foreground so you can judge the size. So here it is next to the Stiletto 2 which I'll add is currently the smallest portable Sirius radio. As you can see, the XMP3 is slightly smaller than the Stiletto. Same width, a little thinner, and an little shorter. Still the screen is larger.

If you don't know how small a Stiletto is, here are a couple shots of it in my chubby little hands. Note the microSD card slot on the top. This lets you buy a 8GB phone memory card and stick it in there for MP3s. If you don't know how many tracks 8GB holds, that's the size of a decent iPod Nano.

The buttons are very clear and navigating the menus was simple. Everything is self exploratory. It's not overly different than my Stiletto but I will admit, it's pretty. As I flipped thru I was full of oohs and aahs. One nice thing about XM is when it's not activated you actually get a handful of channels to listen to. There must have been 9 I could check out compared to the 1 Sirius people get. I was actually able to listen to music and try some of the features like pausing live radio, rewinding, and replaying it. You can also record songs and save them on the internal memory. I know, we have that too in the nicer radios but this one lets you record one channel while listening to another. Yep, you can record the Howard reply while listening to live Bubba. The Book says you can record 4 channels at once.

Something odd i noticed was that the docking hole on the bottom is identical looking to the docking hole on the stiletto 2. It sure looks like I could just plug this thing into my universal dock from the last TSS-Radio writeup I did. So like the asshole i am I just went down to the basement to try it out. I've got myself all convinced it's gonna work adn I'm going to be able to crank it up. I plug it in and it's a perfect fit. I walk across the room to plug the extension cord back in and pop! pop! pop! pop! I was shitting myself. I thought I had just burnt the thing up. Thankfully it's fine but I wanted to let you know so you don't try the same thing. it's obviously different.
Sorta tough to do a real review when it's not activated yet. It should be turned on tomorrow and I'll be able to give howard a listen via the Best of sirius package. I'm going to bring it to NYC with me when i go up to do my show and on firday I'll post an update letting you know how it didi in the big city. What else do I got? ah, here are the headphones. They are actually pretty nice but I didn't really get to crank it up yet. The sample channels were playing songs I couldn't stand.

After hearing Howard Stern say that he had a great time playing Beer Pong at Billy Joel's house with Ivanka Trump Labor Day Weekend, I thought, this guy needs his own table. I have one from JustPong.com and when ever we break it out people comment how great it is. Still it's not like he's going to set it up at his Hampton's house so I blew it off. Then when he told me that he was thinking about doing an evening drink show / beer pong tournament in October I knew he needed it for the studio. The tournament never happened and all Beer Pong talk has ended and I just sorta forgot about it. I have to admit, I was bumbed. It sounded like it would have been great radio and the though of Howard playing Beer Pong was just too fucking funny.
So it's Christmas time and since I didn't get him anything last year or for his wedding, I wanted to get Howard a little something to say thanks for the years of doing the Super Fan Roundtable. Normally SFN just complains about the show and I thought it would be nice if for once we contributed to it. I thought about getting him that monkey rocker thing for the studio but since they can't do penetration I had to scratch the idea. Then I remembered the Beer Pong Tournament that never happened and the answer was clear, lets get him a custom Beer Pong table. Maybe it'll get them in the mood for the drinking show. As you can probably tell by the SFN logo at the top of the page, I'm no graphic artist so I put it to all of you. We ran a contest where SFNers design the table we'll give to the show for Christmas and we have a winner. SFNer TheJuice put together the table I liked most. Here's his Howard Stern Pinball design and a couple close ups. ( close up 1 | close up 2 )

As a prize for the photoshop contest, TheJuice gets one. I'll be bringing Howard's to the studio this week with the full realization that it could get thrown in the wood chipper. He could be over Beer Pong and be back to saying it's gay. Keep your fingers crossed. I'm hoping it inspires them to bring back the evening tournament show idea. At the very least, I'm sure one of the staff will scoff it up. Congrats Juice!!! I hope Howard likes your design. I'm delivering it with a set of cups and balls.
These new tables fold into 4 parts making it small enough to fit int he trunk of the Mustang. It's real sturdy and requires no directions to set it up. Anyone can handle it. It's aluminum with double hasps to keep it closed so carrying it to a party is easy. In all ways, it's nicer than my old table. Still, mine kick ass too. (pics of the actual table are on the way. I'll take photos before wrapping it)
People have already asked me, how can I get one of those tables. JustPong.com obviously can't sell Howard Stern beer pong tables but they have lots of designs to pick from. Thier pre-made tables run from $110 to $200. For some extra cash they can print any design you want. You can use their template and photoshop your own Howard Stern design. For example, I had them print up mine in a Bubba Army design. The original graphic was from SFNer BioFussion and I re-worked it to fit my old table. I had planned on having it finished in time for last summer's AC Bubbapalooza but ran out of time. If you want the Bubba Army table, sorry. It doens't fit the tables they sell now nut hey maybe Bubba will stick it in his online store BubbaArmy.com. Here my table.

Want to order TheJuice's table design? It's a little bit of a process but you can handle it. It's not something they sell but you can make it just like I did.
STEP 1 : Click here to order a custom table.
STEP 2 : They are normally $259.99 but enter coupon code "SFN" to get 20% off making it $207.99.
STEP 3 : You need to email them the custom design. Send an email to art@justpong.com with this link to TheJuice's template and reference your online order number in the subject field.
That should handle it. If not, let me know.
UPDATE 12-12-08 : I've posted photos of the actual table. Here are several and here's one more.
PS : You cynical people out there always ask, did you get paid for this write up? No, I contacted them becasue I like the table and wanted to give Howard one. The only thing I asked him for was a discount code for you guys. That's 100% the truth.
